About Us

What is the goal of J-Town Richmond?
To build a community in Richmond where the spiritual and communal needs of the next generation of Jewish adults are met in a way that is welcoming, interesting, and caters to a diverse peer group.

Who can be involved?
Anyone Jewish or interested in learning more and connecting with Judaism and the Jewish community who is in their 20s or 30s and looking for activities, worship, and social programming.  All spouses and friends are also invited to be involved regardless of religious beliefs.

Is this group mainly for members of Congregation Beth Ahabah?
No and Yes.  :)  The group is not Beth Ahabah-specific.  All Jewish people, regardless of congregational affiliation (belonging to another synagogue or unaffiliated) are welcome and encouraged to participate.  However, the program is funded, staffed, and organized within the aspics of Congregation Beth Ahabah.  Rabbi Jesse Gallop directs the program spiritually and administratively.  But we are focused on serving the needs of young, urban Jews whose needs have not been served within the formal Richmond Jewish community.

What if my spouse / significant other is older than the target age or is not Jewish?
All are welcome.  The mission is only the focus of the group, not a specific requirement for membership or participation.

How can I help share input and / or help develop future programs and resources?
We are always looking for help.  You can email Rabbi Jesse Gallop at rabbi.gallop@bethahabah.org.  We also have regular meetings as a leadership team (which you are invited to join).  For this program to be successful and for us to serve the community in a positive and helpful way, participants need to feel ownership and their voices need to be heard.

Do I need to join any group?
No, but please fill out this contact form so that we can keep you up-to-date with J-Town's happenings.  You may choose to take yourself off of our list at any time.  There is no formal membership to this group.  The goal is to help you build connections within the Richmond Jewish community and help support you if you decide you would like to join a local Jewish congregation.

What does the future hold for J-Town?
J-Town's programming is dependent on the interests of its members. We'll always organize our spin on the major holiday traditions, but if you have an idea for the group, we want to hear it! Email Rabbi Jesse Gallop at rabbi.gallop@bethahabah.org, or attend our regular planning meetings.
